Death of Life Member and former League Registrar

I am saddened to inform you all that our friend, Life member, and former League Registrar, Mrs Barbara Gissing passed away yesterday after her brave battle with cancer.

Many of you will know Barbara as she has been part of the League Management Committee since becoming the League Registrar in Season 1993/94. She remained in that role until 2015, completing 22 unbroken years of service.

Since retiring from the role of League Registrar in 2015 she was a regular attender at the League’s Management Committee meetings in her capacity of Life Member of the League and her knowledge and experience in helping the League develop over her time was immeasurable.. She attended the Ron Eaglen Cup final only last month despite her illness and she was a true inspiration to all who knew her. She will certainly be sadly missed by all her friends in the League.

There will be a thanksgiving and celebration of her life a week tomorrow, Monday 8th July, commencing at 2.00pm at Moorland Park Methodist Church, 46 Skellingthorpe Road, Lincoln. Anyone intending to attend is to send me an email to inform me so that I can give her family an idea of possible numbers attending.

Regards to all,

Ian Stephenson

League Secretary

  1. As a former team secretary of the Friendship fc who played for a number of years in your fine league I read with sadness of the passing of Barbara Gissing . When we first joined the league the great time and advice that Barbara gave myself will never be forgotten , Nothing was to much trouble for her as I often had to travel or arrange to collect forms from her home . Barbara Gissing is one the people I class as proper football people who have give so much to the great game . Just in passing many years after we had left your league I was walking down Lincoln high street when I was tapped on the shoulder and it was her saying hello Clive we had chat and I told my son who asked who she was I said a fine lady . R.I.P Barbara
