6th May – Results Round-Up

After all of the cold and adverse weather that we have suffered throughout the Winter it was warm sunshine and doubtless hard pitches that greeted our teams as they took to the park on the early May Bank holiday weekend today.

Premier Division

Last weekend Anglers FC were celebrating lifting the County Football Association Sunday Cup after their win against Rustons United. On Tuesday evening their 6-0 demolition of Hykeham Memorial took them within touching distance of becoming League Champions but Hykeham Town TRFC’s 3-2 away win at Rustons United the next night confirmed Anglers as the Premier Division champions after they returned to the division this Season.

It has been a remarkable Season for the Saxilby based team who still have the chance to make it a treble as they compete in the final of the Kelly Read Cup on 20th May. The League sends its congratulations to all involved in a near faultless League campaign which has seen them win all but one of its League matches with just two points dropped from one drawn game. Their game away at Lincoln Moorlands/Railway today saw them bag maximum points with a 5-0 win, their goals coming from Stewart Aisthorpe (2), Joshua Bowden, Liam Uzzel, and Callum Dye.

Hykeham Town TRFC finished the Season in third place and their 7-0 home win against Newton United saw them finish on a high. Mehta hit a hat-trick, Slater recorded a brace, whilst individual goals from Dickinson and Russell compounded more misery on a Newton side that finish second from bottom having lost 13 of their 16 League games.

Division One

AFC Golden Eagle were the first team to be crowned Champions a few weeks ago and the team taking second place is Welton Sports AFC. Neither team had a game today with their Season already completed. Fva Jerusalem currently sit in third place after their fine 7-3 away win today at Bassingham Bugle Horn FC. Luke Forbes notched a hat-trick, Tom McKenzie scored a couple, whilst A.Wilson and Ben Wray added their name to the score sheet with individual goals. Matthew Dale also scored two goals for Bassingham with their other goal coming courtesy of Chris Dalziel. Bassingham finish the Season in mid-table which is very respectable for this, their first Season back, in Division One.

Wishing Well Cherry have one game to play against bottom of the table AFC Lincoln Green next Sunday and a win for the Cherry boys would see them finish in third place in the League table. Anything less than a win would see FVA Jerusalem take third place. Today Wishing Well Cherry were due to visit Railway Inn AFC but the pitch was unavailable at last minute which saw the game postponed and the points awarded to Wishing Well in accordance with rule.

Wragby FC completed their Season with a 4-0 home win at the expense of Welton FC. This result confirmed Wragby as finishing in seventh place whilst Welton FC finish third from bottom.

Division Two

North Lindum Hawks are the Champions of Division Two and the League extends their congratulations to all involved at the Club after their promotion to the division this Season. Whilst they have the impressive League record of having lost just one League game they actually achieved the honour of League Champions in disappointing style. Their game at home to AFC Harpars on Wednesday night was called off due to their opponents not being able to raise a team and the same thing happened today when they were due to host Dunston FC. The awarding of 6 points as per rule gave them the points needed to finish above St Helens FC but the Hawks still have two more games to play to complete their League campaign. Let us all hope that those two games are played so that football wins the day without the implementation of League rules where points are awarded due to circumstances.

Plough Sturton won 3-1 today at home to AFC Harpars with this result seeing them in fourth position behind Cherry Willingham FC. Both sides have one more League game to play, those results will determine which of those teams finish third and fourth respectively. Both sides have enjoyed a good Season. Despite trailing 0-1 at the break to a first half goal by Cunningham for Harpars second half strikes by Alex Cawkwell (2) and Elliot Sherwood saw Sturton home with a 3-1 win.

Waddington United went down 3-4 in an action packed game at Lincoln High Street, a result which sees the village team finish in sixth place.

Shakespeare Athletic hit 5 goals in a 5-1 away win at bottom of the table Heighington FC. Crampton hit 4 of the goals for the visitors whilst their other marksman was Froggatt.

Division Three

Nettleham FC are the Champions of division three and congratulations are extended to all at the Club by the League. They finished their Season today with a 3-1 home win against Broadley FC.

Birchwood United finish the Season in second place and their 4-2 away win at The Sports Bar completed a very successful Season after promotion last time round for them.

Queen Athletic warmed up for their up and coming Cup Final with a 4-2 home win today against Newtoft Terriers.Joel Sturgess recorded a hat-trick with Liam Grainger getting their other goal. Queen finish sixth with Newtoft finishing one place but 12 points behind them.

Division Four

Morning Star FC were crowned Champions some time ago and the League offers their congratulations to all at the Club in this, their first Season, in the League. They finished their Season in style today with a 5-0 win away at The Shed FC with goals from Will Drury, JJ Lavelle, Martin Waplington, Steve Dale, and an own goal seeing their impressive League Season come to its conclusion.

Today Shakespeare Imps secured second place after a goal thriller at Metheringham Reserves saw them record a 5-4 victory. It must be said that Metheringham deserve enormous respect for playing this game so soon after the death of their Club Secretary during the week. Well done to all at Meg for seeing this game through.

Nosey FC had appeared invincible for most of the Season but a recent poor run of results continued today when they went down 0-3 at home to AFC West End. This result sees Nosey finish in third place which completes a very good Season for them.
