Lincolnshire County Football Association – County Sunday Cup Round 4

Four of the sides from our League progressed through to the Quarter Final stage of the competition after the fourth round games were played today. Leading the way were Ruston Sports  FC who defeated last year’s League Champions and Ron Eaglen Cup winners Ivy Tavern with a solitary goal at Yarborough. Gatehouse FC enjoyed a fine 5-0 home victory at the expense of Smiffy’s United whilst Rustons United won 4-1 at home to Payzone FC. Scothern United overcame the challenge of Division Two side Bassingham Bugle Horn FC 4-2 at Scothern. Greenbank FC were unlucky to go down 2-3 at home to Chancel FC, a result that does not tell the whole story. The final game of the round saw last season’s semi finalist’s Metheringham FC suffer a 0-7 defeat at home to Holbeach United.

Jock Mitchell Memorial Trophy – Round Two

Hykeham Athletic overcame higher division opposition in the form of Dynamo Varsity to progress to the third round after a 3-0 victory away from home. Two games ended up 3-3 after extra time and both therefore needed the dreaded penalties to decide the fate of the teams. First up was AFC Golden Eagle and Railway Inn United, both from division 4 of the League. AFC Golden Eagle took the spoils 4-2 on the kicks from the penalty spot. The other 3-3 game after extra time was between Fox & Hounds FC and Turks Head, this one went the way of the Fox 8-7 on penalties. Wragby FC became the latest team to register double figures against the League’s basement team, The Blue Lion, 15-0 was the result of their efforts today. Lincoln RNA had a narrow but good enough 1-0 win to see them through at home to Broadley FC whilst North Lindum Hawks came through their home game against Birchwood United thanks to a comprehensive looking 5-1 score line. The remaining game between Ingleby Arms FC (Marton) and Coningsby FC was postponed due to Coningsby being unable to raise a side. Ingleby Arms progress through to the next round in accordance with cup rules.

The draw for the third round of the competition has been made and can be viewed by looking in the relevant cup section of the website.
