Lincolnshire County Football Association – County Sunday Cup Round One
Generally speaking today was an excellent day for the vast majority of our League’s teams in the County Sunday Cup.
Of the 16 ties played today involving teams from our League 14 teams have progressed with defeat suffered in only two of those ties. Admittedly some of the ties were all Lincoln Sunday League based teams but all those progressing can be very pleased with their efforts tonight, ahead of the draw which should take place later in the week.
One of the games of the day if the score line is anything to go by was down at Fen Lane North Hykeham where the home side, Railway Inn United from Division 4 of our League, came out of a 13 goal thriller on the right side of the scoring with a 7-6 victory. Smith and Allen each scored two goal apiece and additional goals from Paul, Clark, and Lilley saw the Railway boys make it through to round two – well done to them!
Highest scorers of the day were Rustons United who put 14 past Rippingale and Folkingham FC and to really shine they kept a clean sheet to boot. They boasted two hat-trick heroes on the day with both Drabble and Raby notching a hat-trick each. Mackinder, Skepper, and McDowell each weighed in with two goals apiece and solo efforts from Nicholson and Carter completed the rout.
Lincoln Moorlands/Railway FC weren’t far behind Rustons’ great efforts following their visit to Up the Fish FC Reds. Wapplington scored a hat-trick for the Moors, as did Woodhall. Woodhall’s efforts were even more remarkable in that each of his strikes were from the penalty spot, its not often that someone can claim that statistic! Perhaps its a good job that this game didn’t go to penalties as having scored 3 the next one may just have been one penalty too many in the same game! Michie, Asplin, and Hobson each netted 2 goals each to complete the misery for the home side.
North Lindum Hawks defeated FC Kirton 10-0 but who scored their goals is anybody’s guess.
Hykeham Town TRFC’s impressive League form of late continued in the Cup today as they recorded a fine 8-0 win away at Fosdyke. Murphy scored 4 goals and additional goals by Foster (2), Driver, and a Mehta penalty did the rest for the Hykeham based side.
Old Boys United and Wragby FC shared 10 goals between them out at Wragby. The game went to extra time before Old Boys eventually won the game 6-4. A Moss hat-trick and goals from Hobson, Roberts, and Hudson saw the lower division side knock out their higher division opponents.
Shearwood takes the accolade of goal scorer of the day after he registered 5 in Nettleham’s 8-0 win away at The Ferryboat Inn. Park added 2 more and Froggatt got in on the act to complete a comprehensive victory for the visitors.
A brace of goals each for Szostak and Lynch set Wishing Well Cherry on the road to victory when they visited Grantham based side Ropsley FC, returning hame with a 5-1 win. Pitchford grabbed the other goal in an excellent win for Cliff Hunt’s team.
Welton Sports AFC had 4 individual goal scorers from their 4-0 win away at Blyborough. Furness, French, Richards, and Aisthorpe were their marksmen to see them safely through to the next round.
New Swan had 4 individual scorers from their all Premier Division tie at Hykeham Memorial. Turner, Smith, Thacker, and Halton each hit the target for the Birchwood based side whilst Greensmith and Barnes were the scorers for the home team in a game that saw New Swan win 4-2.
St Helens had a 4-1 home win against Witham St Hughs, the visitor’s goal coming from Brown, and Ruston Sports FC won 4-3 at Swanpool FC. Stokes (2) and Bentley hit the mark for Swanpool but the Rustons scorers are not known.
Division One side Fox & Hounds had a tremendous win 3-2 at home to Premier Division AFC Golden Eagle thanks to goals from Ardron (2) and Humberstone. Omelia scored 2 for Golden Eagle but could not keep them in the Competition on the day.
The current Cup holders Anglers FC had to come from 1-2 down to secure a 3-2 win at home to Queensway Horses. All 3 goals were scored by Taylor to keep the hope alive for the Champions to retain the cup at the first time of asking.
Two sides who exited the competition on their travels today were Bassingham Bugle Horn FC, who lost 0-5 at Jubilee FC (Spalding), and Queen Athletic who went down 3-4 away at Witham Wanderers.
Division One
There were just two games in this Division today with the County Cup ties taking centre stage. FVA Jerusalem came from 1-2 down at home to Lincoln High Street with Stanney and Russell each scoring 2 goals each. Forbes, Wilson, Prendergast, and Coe completed an impressive 8-2 victory after a half-time deficit. Jerusalem move up to 3rd place in the table following this result.
Leedle and Speck fired Newton United to a 2-1 win when they visited Welton FC. Their League position remains unchanged in the lower half of the table.
Division Two
With the top three teams not involved in League action today Hykeham Social FC continued their recently improved form with a 4-1 home win against Dunston FC. Goldacre, Guppy, Crosby, and Oliver got their goals whilst Blackband got on the score sheet for the second week running for the visitors.
Having lost their opening two League games of the season Saxilby Athletic made it back to back wins with a 2-0 win at Cherry Willingham. A Poole penalty and Beaumont did the damage and left Cherry rooted to the foot of the table whilst Saxilby edged up to a mid-table position.
Division Three
Leaders Morning Star won 4-0 at home to Nosey FC thanks to a couple of goals from Matthews. A penalty from Drury plus a goal from Waite gave the score line a comfortable look.
Horncastle Town remain second after an impressive 6-0 home win against near neighbours Ruskington Lions. For luxury they also boasted six individual scorers with Cox, Wilson, White, Close, Bullivant, and Blondell all getting in on the scoring act.
The Sports Bar have moved into third place following their 3-2 home win against Shakespeare Imps today. Ranyard with two goals and a goal from Jack saw them narrowly over the line.
The final game in this division saw Lincoln RNA win 3-0 at Broadley FC.
Division Four
FVA Jerusalem Reserves moved up to third place with a 4-1 win away at The Shed FC. Bass netted for the home side in what proved to be no more than a consolation.
Two goals from Jacob and further goals from Todd and Gorman secured the points for AFC West End when they visited Green Dragon, recording a 4-2 success on the Ermine. West End move up to fourth place following their efforts today.
