It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of Eric Brocklesby, otherwise known as Mr Cherry Willingham, who sadly passed away last weekend.

Eric had been involved with grassroots football for virtually all of his life and he told me that he had been involved with our League since the League was born in 1961.

Eric did everything imaginable within the game. He had been a player, Manager, Chairman, Secretary, Referee, Referee Assessor, and Groundsman even. He was still running the line for Cherry Willingham FC into his eighties such was his passion for his local Club.

He was the best “Club Lino” the league has ever had (that’s what he told me many times)!!

Having known Eric personally for over 30 years this is tremendously difficult for me personally to think that we have all lost a great footballing man and a sincere friend of the League.

On behalf of the Lincoln & District Sunday Football League we send our our sincere condolences to his wife Kath, and to his family.

Details of Eric’s funeral will be posted on this site when they are known.

League Secretary.
