After a Summer of turbulence caused by a number of team withdrawals and issues with pitches following on from the long Summer drought, the League is pleased and relieved to confirm that our domestic programme finally got under way today with the first weekend of our Season’s League matches taking place.
Last week saw some of our teams in action in the first round of the Lincolnshire County Football Association County Sunday Cup and congratulations to our teams that progressed safely into the second round of that Competition. These teams were: AFC West End, Waddington United, FC Welton Sports, Bassingham Bugle Horn FC, Anglers FC Saxilby, Pals North FC, OAP FC, North Kyme FC, Fulbeck United, and FC Lincs.
Our Season suffered a one month delay in starting due to a sizeable number of the League’s pitch providers being unable to release their pitches due to ground conditions which were bone hard, and often cracked, surfaces which left the pitches too dangerous to play on.
Although the League suffered the loss of 4 playing weeks, it is anticipated that the losses can be absorbed into the regulation Season playing dates without the need to apply for a Season extension. However, that will, as always, depend on what further losses we suffer at the hands of the weather elements as the Season progresses.
Next week will see the start of our domestic Cup Competition matches with our Ron Eaglen Challenge Cup taking centre stage.
It’s certainly good to finally be back and I wish all our teams a successful and enjoyable Season. It has been such a long wait to start playing again!
