Fred Quibell Junior Cup Final

The final of this year’s competition will be played between two Second Division teams after both Coningsby FC and Plough Sturton overcame their opponents in the Semi Finals played today. Both Semi Finals sounded like block buster affairs and the victorious teams now have a Spring date to look forward to at Sincil Bank.

Plough Sturton went into the break against North Lindum Hawks trailing 0-3 and few in attendance would have thought that a second half performance of scoring four without conceding would see them come through that tie. Few that is except Alex Cawkwell, who netted twice during the second period, plus James Patching and Elliot Shearwoof, who notched the goals between them to show that a game is never won until the final whistle sounds! Final score: North Lindum Hawks 3-4 Plough Sturton

Coningsby FC defeated The Sports Bar 3-2 at Sudbrooke Drive in the other Semi Final. They took the lead through Daniel Nixon who produced a good turn and finish in the first half before an own goal extended their lead. Sports Bar pulled a goal back before the break leaving the tie in the balance at the interval.

Coningsby extended their goal advantage to 2 again after the break when striker Charlie Stapleton finished from close range before Sports Bar netted with 7 minutes to go to produce a close finish which the Coninsby boys were able to see out without too many alarms. Final score:  The Sports Bar 2-3 Coningsby FC
